Updates from Azeroth
Posted 7 March 2007 under technology, warcraftFigures this would be my last post before a two-month silence on this site. Warcraft is a hell of a drug, I tell you what. Still a lot of fun on my third go-round; leveling this character has been a markedly different experience than my previous runs. My first character was a hunter, probably the most independent of all the classes. My second was a shaman, a sort of jack-of-all-trades. My new character is a priest, a proficient healer and fair damage dealer who takes hits like Dakota Fanning.
As such, I’m as reliant on the armor-wearers to occupy the enemies’ attention as they are on me to keep their life bars topped off. Although I enjoyed playing both of my previous characters immensely, I wouldn’t trade my new guy to get them back; rather than going it alone, I find that it’s much more satisfying to be dependent and depended upon.
I’ve come to really enjoy the team-based aspect of the game. Certainly, one bad egg can make for a miserable three hours, but after watching my shiny purple gear go from incredible, to fair, to worthless, I guess I’ve realized that if your only kicks come from getting newer and better stuff, you’ll always be left wanting. Not that I don’t love stuff, don’t get me wrong, but only as a reward for pulling my weight in an ass-kicking group.
In other news, I’m putting the finishing touches on the web application I made for the Piedmont Wildlife Center, first mentioned here. I’m very pleased with the way it turned out, and hope to do more of this kind of work in the future.
I’m also working with some friends from high school on an as-yet-unnamed web project. Details forthcoming.
